Gifted.
Oh, how I wish we had a better word. There is so much baggage and myth spreading that accompanies the word gifted. Let me go on the record here and say that giftedness is not a big, shiny present which anyone would be lucky to have. Before I elaborate too much, let me recommend you peruse the resources listed below. Perhaps through the combined perspectives, you will come a little closer to understanding what it means to be gifted and how to live with and support the gifted people in your life.

Hoagies' Gifted Education Page This site is a classic go-to for general giftedness resources and fun ideas for supporting you and your child. Please read through the Gifted 101 & 102 pages. Also find sites, experiences, and gift ideas you can use at home. Supporting the Emotional Needs of the Gifted (SENG) Articles Library Although this entire site is a helpful resource, the articles library is a great place to grab quick reads which are topic specific. Ohio Department of Education - Gifted Education Please be familiar with the policies and mandates of our state as related to our kids. It is a helpful tool when advocating for your child's education especially in a public school setting. The Ohio Association for Gifted Children This statewide advocacy group site provides up-to-date information on proposed and current state legislation which impacts gifted children. In addition, find helpful links to scholarships and programs for your child. The National Association for Gifted Children The national advocacy group of which OAGC is a branch. The conventions are outstanding for educators, parents, and children. The Davidson Institute This site includes another outstanding articles database. The institute serves to provide support for highly and profoundly gifted individual who face unique sets of challenges. |
