Corrections Rationale & Expectations
NEW PROCEDURES FOR THE 2023-2024 SCHOOL YEAR!
What is the purpose of correcting work?
Because our classwork is often intentionally designed to stretch skills and understanding for growth, students will sometimes need a second chance to maintain or pursue report card grade goals. The extra time and effort put into correcting work is also a terrific reinforcement of the learning an assignment assesses.
What are the minimum expectations of corrected work?
- The most critical expectation of all corrected work is that an attempt is made to correct all errors on any one assignment. Incomplete corrections will not be accepted. If incomplete corrections are submitted on work for which corrections are optional, the opportunity to restore points will be forfeited. On required corrections, disciplinary measures may be taken if corrections are not finished in a timely manner.
How will I know which assignments have potentially correctable items?
- Permission to complete corrections must be requested via email, following the format described here. If a student can show and/or explain how time and resources were earnestly and effectively used in the first attempt of an assignment, permission to correct the work will be granted.
- When work requires students to apply their reading and writing skills and demonstrate them in their own words, that work will be mostly or completely correctable.
- Practices and quizzes which check the basic recall of studied material will not be correctable.
- Points earned for timeliness or participation cannot be recovered.
What is the deadline for corrected work?
- The opportunity to correct eligible work may be requested any time one week following the return of the graded, original assignment. If that request is approved, corrected work must be submitted within one week of that approval. Work time during class may be used for correcting work if all other current work is caught up.

Correction Procedures
For corrections of an assignment, students MUST do the following:
1. Request permission to correct the work. Make sure it is correctable. Assignments will be coded in ProgressBook, but the possibility of corrections will always be stated at the time the work is assigned. Also make sure you have read all of the feedback and asked any questions you need answered to help you understand your errors. Write the email and send it to Mrs. Putro within a week of the receiving your graded work.
2. Create a new version of the work which does not destroy the original work. If the work was done in a Google Doc, the new work should be done in the original document since Google automatically archives previous versions. If the work was done on paper, the original work must be returned with the new work on the same or additional paper. Google forms can be resubmitted.
3. Submit the corrected work within one week of the approval of your corrections request. Mrs. Putro will provide you with a specific date when your request is approved.
* Please note that completion of corrected work does not guarantee a change of the student's score.
